Yesterday, I didn’t photograph the food, because the locusts descended so quickly (and I count myself among the locusts) that it was not even an option. Rib-eye steaks, corn on the cob, and a salad. Definitely a Mom Food meal. The kid approved, and kept telling me it was the best dinner all week.
Now, I really believe that food is not love. When people reject my food, they’re not rejecting me. I know that. But it still gives me joy when I manage to feed people food they love, and last night’s dinner was a joy all around.
(Of course, not being a huge meat-lover, I much preferred the corn to the meat, but hey, joy comes in different forms.)

Speaking of joy, I’m making a Rick Bayless chicken taco recipe for lunch, as part of a contest he runs on Twitter. It’s definitely not Mom Food (my mother doesn’t like Mexican food, and I don’t care that much for chicken), but it’s completely for fun. One thing I love about starting this project is it’s injected some fun into my cooking again.

In meta-blog news, I’m going to join a blogger challenge on Monday, so there may be more posts than I planned between now and launch. I really want to make this project as beautiful and useful as I can.
